Some of my favorite sessions come with a story I didn’t see coming, and this one had two. This family’s session came through their support of the 412 Gives Back Gala, an incredible charity event I’ve followed and admired for a while, and it made this one extra special knowing their generosity helped raise money for such a good cause. As we got to talking, it turned out I’ve actually photographed this mom’s twin sister for years now. Full circle in the best way — Pittsburgh really is a small world.
We met at Hartwood Acres on one of those perfect peak summer evenings, and we took full advantage of everything the space offers. We wandered through the garden, found some amazing warm golden light in the wooded backdrop, and spent time exploring the grounds around the mansion. The evening was so beautiful that it drew out half of Pittsburgh’s other photographers too, but Hartwood is big enough to hold it all, and we still found our own pockets of space.
This family was sweet and silly, and we hit it off right away — it turns out we have quite a few mutual connections, and it was fun piecing that together as we went. Their two kids are both in elementary school, and with the school year gearing back up, we had no shortage of things to chat about between shots.
