One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is watching each kid’s personality take shape over the years. Every family has its own mix, and no two kids show up to a session the same way. Getting to see them grow into themselves, one season at a time, never gets old.
I’ve photographed this family for years now, and this session was a great example of that. We met at Fern Hollow on an unusually warm fall evening, right as the color was starting to come in, and we had the whole space to ourselves. Mom and dad are sweet and laid back, which made it easy for the kids to just be themselves.
Big sis was all in. She was curious about everything, loved posing, and was just as interested in what was happening behind the camera. So I handed her the big camera, and a handful of those twirling photos of her little sister at the end are hers. She did a great job. Both sisters were natural in front of the camera too, and little sis brought her own energy to the evening in the best way.
And then there was little brother, almost one and very proud of himself. He’s such a sweet, happy addition to this crew, and he fits right in with his big sisters, who clearly adore him. You can already tell he’s eager to keep up with them. He decided this was the perfect time to show off a few of his first steps, and of course we caught it.
