The first year with a baby brings so much change—from sleepy newborn snuggles to wild giggles and wobbly first steps. It’s a whirlwind of a year, which is why first birthday sessions always feel extra special.
I first met this sweet family last year for their daughter’s newborn session, and this time we were back together to celebrate her turning one. Fern Hollow made the perfect setting—not just because of its soft light and fall textures, but because this is a place their family already loves to explore together.
We were gifted the most beautiful evening, with a sky that showed off in the best way. Dramatic cloud formations rolled in just in time to add a little extra magic to the backdrop—and paired perfectly with all the sweet, joyful moments happening in front of the camera.
One of my favorite details? Their little girl had taken her very first steps just the night before, and she was clearly loving this new freedom. At the session, she kept testing out those wobbly steps with pride—choosing walking over her usual bear crawl almost every time. Her big brother brought his own charm and energy, and together this crew made the session so much fun.
