Session Type: Family Session
Location: Fern Hollow Nature Center | Pittsburgh, PA
There’s something about the first year that goes faster than any other stretch of parenthood — one minute you have a newborn, and the next you’re chasing a toddler who just learned to walk. This session captured exactly that kind of shift, and it was such a fun one to be a part of.
This family was incredibly flexible with me, rescheduling this session more than once before we finally landed on a date. It was well worth the wait.
I usually shoot at Fern Hollow in the evening, so meeting here in the morning was a first for me. The light and the space were just as beautiful in this new timeframe, just in a completely different way.
They have two little boys, and they were unbelievably cute for the entire session. Lots of giggles, plenty of silliness, and wild hair the whole way through. The youngest had just turned one and recently learned to walk, and he was eager to show off his new skill every chance he got.
Near the end of the session, we wandered into a part of Fern Hollow I hadn’t explored before — an educational area with a dinosaur fossil pit. It turned into one of the best parts of the morning, full of excitement and some great candid moments.
Here’s a little sneak peek of some favorites from this morning first birthday session at Fern Hollow.
