One of the most common questions I hear from photographers is about how they should market their photography business. While I’d love to say there is some great big secret to marketing, it’s a lot more simple than most photographers think. At it’s core, marketing is simply finding the way to get the right product in front of the right person at the right time. Today, I want to share 3 places to market your photography business this spring so you can start your next season on the right foot!
Remember, good marketing is about knowing what you offer and how you’re serving your ideal client. By knowing the answers to those questions, you can create the marketing strategy you plan to use. No matter what you decide to market with, a strong marketing plan is about time and being consistent. Make yourself known and you’ll gain the “like, know, and trust” factor with your audience.
Here are some ideas for marketing your business for growth…
#1. Mailing List
Your most captive audience will be the people who signed up or opted in to your mailing list. They’re your warmest leads. These are the people that have expressed interest and want to hear from you! However, email lists take time to develop. If you don’t have one yet, get it set up ASAP! It’s going to be one of the most important parts of your marketing plans. And once it’s set up, make sure that you’re actually nurturing the people on your list by showing up regularly for them in their inbox.

#2. Social Media
Love it or hate it, social media is one of the best free marketing tools we have access to. Although it’s a bit finicky and less than reliable at times, it’s a free platform to connect with clients or potential clients.
Take the time to develop a strategy for showing up and growing your following organically. Remember that your plans and strategy may look different than other business owners and that’s okay. With posts, stories, Reels, and so many more options, there’s something for everyone!

#3. Your Existing Clients
Your existing clients are your biggest fans. They are people who have invested in your business and have worked with you before. Treat every session as an opportunity to share and market your business (if they are OK with info being public, of course). Share images from your session on social media and tag your clients. Create sneak peeks or blogs that you can use to create excitement about their session. Don’t forget to ask for reviews and referrals, as these opportunities are a great way to continue to grow.
